TRIP OVERVIEW

The Lake 69, located at 4600m/15,092ft.lies just at the flank of The Pisco and Chacraraju Mountain. This is one of the most beautiful aqua colored glacial lakes in the Northern of the Cordillera Blanca Mountain range. Considered by most hikers as one of the most impressive scenic day hikes in the entire Cordillera Blanca. It is truly a unique and special place. On clear days you can look straight through its deep blue color waters, there is an incredible waterfall dropping right into the far end of the lake that makes amazing scenery to enjoy. This hike rated as medium to hard, because of the altitude and challenging hiking effort at the last section just before to reach the lake, combines and scenic mountain view of the main peaks in the Cordillera Blanca, beautiful colored lakes, reach vegetation and magnificent water falls dropping down along the valley.

MAP & ITINERARY DESCRIPTION

We recommend our clients to start early; our team will pick you up at your hotel then drive north in our private transportation along the Callejon de Huaylas valley following the curse of the main river Santa in the Valley that divides the Cordillera Blanca at the East and the Cordillera Negra at the West, passing traditional town with its farmlands and enjoy the view of the peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. As we reach Yungay drive up on the dirt road to the North East where is located the Llanganuco Valley, just at the entrance of the valley we Stop at the Huascaran National Park check point to register the continue drive up passing the beautiful lakes of Chinancocha and Orconcocha, make an stop at the side of the Lake Chinancocha to takes some pictures then drive ahead to Cebollapampa at 3 900, our star hiking point  to the lake 69.

At the beginning it is an pleasant hike on the almost flat area for about 1 hour, passing through quenual tress enjoying view surrounded on the back ground we have the view of Huascaran mountain, the highest peak in the Cordillera Blanca, Chopicalqui, Yanapaccha.Then ascend on the well market sig sag path to the first small lake, as we gain Hight a dramatic glaciated peak of Chacraraju,Yanapaccha, Huascaran,Chopicalqui  and water falls in the valley comes into view. Continue ascending on the last sig sag path to the lake 69, some people find hard demandind the last section just before o reach the lake, you may feel the effects of the altitude and get tired just a last effort to get the lake. It is really worded to reach the lake you will be impressed by the beauty of the lake and a close-up view of the Pisco and Chacraraju mountains. Relax take pictures have box lunch enjoying the landscape surrounded then descend on the same way to Cebollapampa, where our transportation is waiting to drive you back to Huaraz Hotel. Timing about 10 – 11 hours full day adventure journey.

MEAL PLAN – FOOD

All breakfasts are included in most hotels in Huaraz. 

As part of our service, we provide you with tasty nutritional lunches, snacks and modern, comfortable personal transport to and from our day hikes.

Our service include  from box lunch for midday during day trips.You will pay directly extra meal expenses during your stay in Huaraz From traditional Peruvian dishes, through to budget bites and fine cuisine you should allow approximately US$10 – 15 per meal.

We cater all fresh meals .We are pleased to cater to our vegetarian clients or special diets on request. It is your personal trek so it is your personal meal choice.

TYPICAL TREKKING ADVENTURE DAY SCHEDULE

On a typical Day trip we will pick you up from your hotel. All our Day tours starts and ends from your hotel. During tours you will be accompanied by our guide and private transportation with reliable and experienced drivers. For large groups up to 5 there will be a assistant guide to support the group.

Every day we will provide you snack and cooked lunch for (Paron, Pastoruri) for lake 69 and other hikes where is not possible to have the car next to us for lunch time. We will provide you delicious sandwiches. According you diet request.

HEALTH AND HYGIENE

We make health and hygiene our top priority. Our box lunchs are prepared with fresh vegetables accompanied by meet, trout or chicken. Fruits we provide are disinfected using a special liquid to kill the bacteria.

  • Basic First Aid Kit including: Antiseptic cream, throat lozenges, diarrhoea treatment (Imodium), Diamox, painkillers, plasters and blister treatment, and re-hydration salts (Dioralite).
  • Sun protection (including total bloc for lips, nose etc.)
  • Water bottles 1 Litre (x2)
  • Antibacterial handwash
