The Classic Santa Cruz Trek is one of the most popular trekking routes in the Cordillera Blanca (white-mountain range). The trek takes you through fertile alpine valleys, has views of magnificent, spiraling high glaciated peaks, flower-filled meadows and glacier-fed turquoise lakes. This world-renown circuit crosses from one side of the Cordillera Blanca range to the other through ascending the Punta Union Pass reaching an elevation of 15,584 ft / 4750 m, and then descends into the rich lush Paria Valley. As we hike through the Paria valley headed to Vaqueria, the end of the trek, you’ll pass through the small mountain village of Huaripampa where you’ll have the opportunity to meet the exceedingly warm, kind and gentle Quechua mountain people.

The Santa Cruz circuit can be accomplished in either a 4 day and 3 night trek or, if you choose, can be modified to be 5 days and 4 nights by either adding in a rest day “chillin out” and taking in the sights at the relaxing and breath taking grassy pasture of Taullipampa camp at 13,944 ft / 4250 m couldn’t be a more perfect resting place with an option of half day hike up to the base camp of Alpamayo, considered by most mountaineers to be the world’s most beautiful mountain.
