Acclimatization before your Cordillera Blanca Trek
Prepare properly before entering the high mountains.
Many Cordillera Blanca trekking routes reach elevations of 4,000 meters and above.
For this reason, proper acclimatization is an essential part of preparing for a multi-day trek.
At Inkaland Treks, we strongly recommend arriving in Huaraz several days before your trekking departure and completing progressive acclimatization hikes before beginning your expedition.
For most demanding multi-day trekking programs, we recommend allowing at least 2–3 full days of acclimatization, with additional time when appropriate according to your previous altitude exposure, physical condition and itinerary.
Our team can help you organize:
- Individual acclimatization hikes
- Private day hikes
- Transportation
- Progressive acclimatization programs
- Complete acclimatization + trekking packages
Popular acclimatization options include routes such as Laguna Churup, Laguna 69 and other day hikes in the Cordillera Blanca, selected according to your preparation and program.
Trekking in Huascarán National Park
Much of the Cordillera Blanca trekking experience takes place within Huascarán National Park, a protected mountain environment known for its glaciers, high-altitude ecosystems, lakes and spectacular peaks.
Trekking in this environment requires respect for the landscape and responsible practices on the trail.
Our team works to organize expeditions with careful attention to:
- Mountain safety
- Waste management
- Respect for local communities
- Responsible use of campsites
- Protection of the natural environment

Best time to Trek the Cordillera Blanca
The main trekking season in the Cordillera Blanca is generally May to September, during the Andean dry season.
These months typically offer more stable weather, clearer mountain views and favorable conditions for multi-day trekking.
Mountain conditions can vary from year to year, however, so the best timing also depends on the route and your travel plans.
If you are planning a Cordillera Blanca trek, remember to allow enough time in Huaraz for proper acclimatization before entering the mountains.

How difficult is trekking in the Cordillera Blanca?
Difficulty varies significantly between routes.
The Santa Cruz Trek is generally considered moderate, while longer routes such as Cedros–Alpamayo and the 11-day combination with Santa Cruz require stronger physical preparation and previous trekking experience.
Do I need previous trekking experience?
For multi-day trekking programs, previous trekking experience is strongly recommended.
Cordillera Blanca treks involve several consecutive days of hiking at high altitude, significant physical effort and overnight camping in the mountains.
Unlike a day hike, you will not return to a hotel at the end of the day. You will sleep at designated mountain camps in tents, using camping equipment and adapting to changing mountain conditions.
Previous experience with multi-day hiking, camping and sleeping in a tent is therefore highly recommended, especially for longer or more demanding routes such as the Cedros–Alpamayo and other extended Cordillera Blanca expeditions.
You do not necessarily need extensive high-altitude trekking experience, but you should be physically prepared, comfortable with camping and ready for several consecutive days of trekking.
If you have limited trekking or camping experience, our team can help you determine which program is appropriate for you and recommend suitable acclimatization hikes in Huaraz before your trek.
How many days should I acclimatize before a Cordillera Blanca trek?
We generally recommend at least 2–3 full days of acclimatization before a demanding multi-day trek.
Additional acclimatization may be appropriate depending on the program, your previous altitude exposure and physical condition.
We strongly recommend arriving in Huaraz with enough time to acclimatize before beginning your trekking program.
Can I join a group trek?
Yes.
Confirmed Cordillera Blanca departures are published on our Join a Group page.

Our team can help you choose a route that matches your experience and preparation.
Can I organize a private Cordillera Blanca trek?
Yes.
Private trekking programs are available for couples, families, friends and small groups, subject to operational availability.
What is the best season for Cordillera Blanca trekking?
The main trekking season is generally May to September, during the Andean dry season.
