Preparing for your adventure in the Peruvian Andes begins long before stepping onto the trail. As a licensed and experienced local operator, Inkaland Treks ensures that every traveler receives clear, accurate, and professional guidance from the moment they begin planning their trip.
This page gives you everything you need to know before arriving in Peru, helping you start your journey fully informed and ready for a safe, smooth, and memorable experience.
1. Travel Documents & Entry Requirements
To enter Peru, travelers must have:
- A valid passport with at least 6 months validity.
- A 90-day tourist entry (granted automatically for most nationalities).
- Digital copies of passport, travel insurance, and booking documents.
- No visa required for travelers from North America, Europe, Australia, or most Latin American countries.
As a professional tour operator, we assist clients and partner agencies with any documentation needed for their confirmed itineraries.
2. Travel Insurance (Highly Recommended)
Trekking and climbing at altitude require dependable insurance. Your policy should include:
- High-altitude trekking (up to 5,200 m)
- Emergency evacuation
- Medical assistance
- Trip cancellation & interruption
- Baggage loss or delay
Inkaland Treks adheres to strict safety protocols, but proper travel insurance adds essential protection and peace of mind.
3. Preparing Physically
Good fitness enhances your experience and safety. We recommend:
- 6–8 weeks of cardio training (hiking, running, cycling).
- Long walks with a small backpack.
- If possible, exposure to moderate altitude before arrival.
Our guides assess your condition daily and manage the pace to ensure comfort and safety.
4. Altitude Awareness
Huaraz sits at 3,100 m, and trekking routes reach higher elevations. Proper acclimatization is essential:
- Plan at least two acclimatization days before your trek.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Avoid alcohol and heavy meals during the first 48 hours.
- Take the first day slowly.
We offer acclimatization day hikes guided by our certified team—ideal for preparing your body for the altitude safely.

5. Weather & Best Seasons
Understanding the Andean climate helps you choose the best time to travel:
Dry Season (May–September)

Shoulder Months (April, October–November)

✔ Mixed weather conditions
Rainy Season (December–March)
✘ Rain, clouds, and limited visibility
✘ Not recommended for multi-day treks
✔ Day tours offered with adapted logistics
As operators, we constantly monitor weather patterns to operate safely and efficiently.
