Travel Tips & Safety
Exploring the Peruvian Andes is a transformational experience — and good preparation ensures that your journey remains safe, smooth, and unforgettable.
Inkaland Treks operates with strict safety protocols, certified guides, and reliable logistics, trusted by independent travelers and international travel agencies.
These essential tips will help you travel confidently in Huaraz, Huayhuash, Cusco, and throughout Peru.

1. Altitude Awareness: Acclimatize Properly
The Andes are high-altitude regions:
- Huaraz: 3,052 m / 10,013 ft
- Cusco: 3,399 m / 11,152 ft
- Most treks: 4,000–5,000+ m
✔ Tips for a Safe Adjustment
- Acclimatize 2–3 days before trekking
- Drink 2–3 liters of water daily
- Avoid alcohol on the first night
- Eat light, balanced meals
- Walk slowly; don’t rush
- Inform your guide if you feel any unusual symptoms
Our guides are trained in altitude management and will monitor your well-being throughout the expedition.
2. Weather & Climate Preparedness
Mountain weather can change rapidly. Expect:
✔ Intense sun (UV is stronger at altitude)
✔ Cold mornings and nights
✔ Possible wind
✔ Rain between December–March
Pack These Essentials:
- Waterproof jacket
- Warm mid-layer
- Hat & gloves
- Sunglasses (UV protection)
- Sunscreen SPF 50+
- Buff or neck gaiter
3. Trail Safety: Trek Responsibly
Inkaland Treks follows strict mountain safety standards.
✔ Follow your guide — they are certified and highly experienced
✔ Stay with the group — avoid unmarked paths
✔ Pace yourself — slow and steady at altitude
✔ Use trekking poles for balance and knee support
✔ Hydrate often — dehydration increases altitude symptoms
4. Food Safety & Water Safety
