Day 1 – Huaraz → Punta Olímpica → Nevado Mateo Summit → Huaraz

Max Altitude: 5,150 m • Distance: ~6 km • Climb Time: 6–7 h (round trip)

  • 02:00 Depart Huaraz by private vehicle toward Punta Olímpica (≈4,750 m).
  • Breakfast & gear check at trailhead.
  • Hike ~2 h over rocky moraine to the glacier.
  • Rope up and continue 1.5–2 h on snow/ice using crampons and ice axe to reach the summit.
  • Enjoy sweeping summit panoramas, photos & celebration.
  • Careful descent to the trailhead and drive back to Huaraz ~14:00.

Day 7 – Base Camp → Pashpa → Huaraz

Descend 3–4 hours through the Ishinca Valley to Cochapampa, where private transport will return you to Huaraz.

  • How difficult is it?
    Easy → moderate for fit, acclimatized trekkers; it’s a true glacier intro with a rope team.

    Personal clothing and boots can be rented in Huaraz.

Recommended Training & Preparation

  • Acclimatization: at least one hike above 4,200–4,500 m the day(s) before
  • Fitness: able to hike 6–7 hours at altitude with short, steady ascents
