Day 1 – Huaraz → Cashapampa → Llamacorral (3,760 m)

Private transport from Huaraz (3,050 m) to Cashapampa (2,900 m), where mules and porters await.
Trek through the lower Santa Cruz Valley with views of waterfalls and granite walls before reaching Llamacorral Camp.

Day 2 – Llamacorral → Alpamayo Base Camp (4,250 m)

Continue through lush valleys past Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha Lakes, surrounded by the towering peaks of Artesonraju and Quitaraju.

Day 3 – Acclimatization Day

Rest and acclimatize at Base Camp. Optional short hike or glacier training with your guide to review rope and ice-climbing techniques.

Climb a steep rocky section with porters carrying group gear.

Ascend over mixed terrain and cross the glacier to reach High Camp, located below Alpamayo’s southwest face.

Early alpine start (~1:00 AM).
Climb via the Ferrari Route — steep snow and ice slopes (55°–70°) leading to the spectacular summit ridge.

Descend carefully using fixed ropes and anchors to return to High Camp.

Recommended Training & Preparation

Climbing Alpamayo demands a combination of physical strength, endurance, and solid technical skills. Proper training will make your experience more enjoyable and increase your chances of summit success.

Physical Conditioning

  • Cardio: running, cycling, or long hikes 3–4 times per week
  • Strength: leg and core training (lunges, squats, stair climbs)
  • Altitude readiness: previous treks or climbs above 5,000 m recommended

Technical Skills

You should be comfortable with:

  • Ice axe and crampon techniques on slopes up to 60–70°
  • Ascending and descending fixed ropes
  • Glacier travel, rope team movement, and crevasse safety

A short technical refresher course can be arranged in Huaraz before the climb for those wishing to review techniques.

Mental Preparation

Alpamayo is remote and exposed — weather, snow conditions, and patience play a big role. Team spirit, focus, and persistence are key to a successful ascent.
