A shorter challanging trek along Huayhuash range crossing  the high spectacular Trapecio Pass at 5050m. Superb high-level Andean trekking experience in Peru. Ideal for hikers  with limited time  for expedition. Good physical condition is required.

As  any Huayhuash Program options This 8 or 9 days trek offers the best views of Huayhuash its  beauty, strenuous, and wild adventure circuit, with amazing and gorgeously view ascending  passes over 4700 m, pristine turquoise glacier lakes, jagged snow-capped peaks as Rondoy mount, Hirishanca mount, Siula mount, Puscanturpa, and majestic mount Yerupaja, which is the second highest peak in the Peruvian Andes, which is enough to become a mountain paradise.

Day 1: Huaraz / Cuartelhuain

After breakfast at your hotel we pick you up and drive south to Cuartelhuain at 4180 m/13,714 ft where we set up camp. During our drive to Cuartelhuain you’ll pass traditional Andean towns with typical Quechua homes and rich farm land. You’ll have great views towards the east of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range and towards the west you’ll see the Cordillera Negra mountain range. We’ll continue our drive up to Conococha Lake at 4080m / 13,386ft then drive down to Cuartelhuain.  6 hour drive.

Day 2: Cuartelhuain / Mitucocha

An early start today as we begin our ascent up the Punta Cacanan Pass at 4700 m / 15,420 ft. From the top of the pass you can enjoy a panoramic view of the valley before descending to our second camp at Mitucocha Lake. There are two options to reach camp. One is the normal longer trail or the alternative trail with a steep descent but great views of the surrounding mountains. Overnight at Mitucocha at 4250 m / 13,944 ft.  6 – 7 hours walk.

Day 3: Mitucocha / Carhuacocha

This day we reach the Carhuac Pass at 4650m/15,256ft as you ascend constantly on a gentle climb up for approximately 3 hours from where you have the first view of the beautifully stunning peaks of Yerupaja, Siula Grande and Jirishanca. From this vantage point, we’ll descend to our next campsite at Carhuacocha Lake at 4150 m / 13,615 ft. We’ll camp beside this large beautiful lake and enjoy the views of Yerupaja, Siula Grande, Jirishanca peaks. During the afternoon you can elect to rest or just walk around this beautiful Lake.  5-6 hours walk.

Day 4: Carhuacocha / Huayhuash

There are two optional approaches to our next camp at Huayhuash. We can take the normal trail to ascend the Carnicero Pass at 4600 m / 15,092 ft or the more challenging alternative by ascending the Siula Pass at 4 800 m / 15,748 ft. While this second alternative is more demanding, it is truly rewarding because of the surrounding panoramic views. We descend passing close to Carnicero Lake then camp at Huayhuash 4 300 m / 14,108 ft. 6-7 hours walk.

Day 5: Huayhuash / Trapecio Pass / Huanacpatay

This day is a challanging day becuase we cross the Trapecio Pass. After breakfast we start ascebding gradually then am stedely Climb up toward to Trapecio Pass at 5050 m. As we sacend to the pass of Trapecio peak  the stunning view of this peks comes into view. From the pass we have amazing views around. Then we start descending the rocky road towards the Huanacpatay valley, during the hike we pass to the edge by the lagoon of turquoise glacier wáter and we head to the next camp Huanacpatay at 4350 m. This day is one of the longest days during trekking. We recommend  start early. – 7 – 8 hours approximately.

Day 6: Huanacpatay / Huatiac

We hike down the valley to the village of Huayllapa then start a steep ascent up to Huatiac. Today’s hike begins with an easy gentle descent along the valley before beginning a steep climb up towards camp. The hike is made more challenging because of the midday sun on us as we ascend. Overnight at a grassy area (pampa) at Huatiac camp 4350 m / 14,272 ft.  6-7 hours walk.

Day 7: Huatiac / Jahuacocha

Today we cross two passes. Initially we hike up the trail to reach the first pass Punta Tapush at 4750 m / 15,584 ft then make a short descent before again starting our next climb up to reach the second pass of Punta Yaucha at 4800 m / 15,748 ft.  It is certainly a challenging experience to reach the second pass as you ascend up on a switch back trail which is rocky in areas as we approach and reach the Yaucha Pass. The efforts to reach this dramatic vantage point are well worth it for the magnificent views of the surrounding high peaks are truly impressive. We descend down through lupines along the valley to our final camp at Jahuacocha Lake at 4150 m / 13,615 ft. We’ll camp overnight beside the lake enjoying the views of the majestic mountains surrounding Jauacocha Lake. 7 – 8 hours walk.

Day 8: Jahuacocha / Llamac Village

We’ll complete our 9 day trek today by hiking down the Jauacocha Valley for about 45 minutes and then ascend up to the Llamac Pampa at 4 300 m / 14,108 ft with its great close up view of the Huayhuash Mountain range as a back drop. After resting here and enjoying the close views of the peaks and taking some great panoramic photos, we’ll then make a long descent to the Llamac village where our private transport will be waiting to take you back to your Huaraz hotel.  5 hours hike & 5 hours drive.
