Peru Winter Guided Adventure Holidays

Inkaland Treks developed a selection of hiking and touring adventure winter trips through our base in the Cordillera Blanca and in Cuzco in Peru’s southeast region. These adventure trips are for those adventurists who may not be able to travel during high season enjoying camping trekking and hiking. We have alternative short treks that include sleeping in comfortable lodges instead of tents and staying in charming hotels in the city.

Winter Hikes in the Cordillera Blanca Range
In our company base in Huaraz, Peru based near the Cordillera Blanca mountain range we offer two special treks for those people who want to hike and trek during the winter.

- Huandoy Hike on Rajururi Valley & Lake 69 Hike
- Hike to Pisco Base Camp & Lake 69

These two day hiking programs in the Cordillera Blanca Range provide unparalleled access to the Llanganuco Valley Gorge which is the gateway to the Huascaran National Park and the Rajururi Valley where the rugged and awe inspiring Huascaran Peak, Peru’s highest peak at 22,205ft / 6768m), is located.

Note: We selected this programs as a winter trek option because of the ideal proximity of location to the trail for hiking and for sleeping in a nice mountain lodge. This program is also recommended throughout all of the seasons either after or before completing a long trekking program or if you just want to relax outside of Huaraz close to the spiraling high, white-capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range.

Huandoy Hike the Rajururi Valley & Laguna 69

This hike is also ideal to acclimatize in comfort before undertaking some of the most unforgettable treks in the Cordillera Blanca or Cordillera Huayhuash mountain ranges or in the Cuzco area or just to relax after completing a trekking or climbing program with Inkaland Treks.

 Day by day Itinerary

Day 1: Huaraz / Llanganuco Lodge / Hike Rajururi Valley to Huandoy Moraine
After breakfast at your hotel, our Inkaland Treks team will pick you up in our private transportation to drive you to the Llanganuco Lodge where the hike starts. Driving up to the Llanganuco Valley takes us north along the Rio Santa in the Callejon de Huaylas (Huaylas Valley) passing through traditional Andean towns with rich fertile farm lands and typical traditional home and native Quechua people with their colorful clothes. During or ride north from Huaraz, you will enjoy the views of the high peaks of the Cordillera Blanca mountain range to the east and the Cordillera Negra mountain range to the west. If the weather is good we’ll make some stops for photos and also see the remains of the old village of Yungay which was buried by a mud-avalanche from Huascaran peak in 1970.  From Yungay, we’ll continue our drive up on a road to the Lodge where we’ll start our first day hike through Rajururi Valley up to the Huandoy moraine field.
2 ½ to 3 Hours’ drive/ 5-6 hours hike
Meals Included: Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Llanganuco Lodge / Lake 69 / Huaraz
After early breakfast at the Lodge, we drive up along the Llanganuco Valley. Once we register at the Huascaran National Park check point, we’ll continue drive up to Cebollapampa at 12,795ft / 3900m where we start our hike up to Laguna 69. In the beginning, it is easy hiking on a fairly flat trail in an open valley for about 50 minutes passing through quenual forest. Then we climb up on a gradual switch back trail with beautiful surrounding waterfalls. As we continue gaining altitude, an astonishing view of the mountains in the background appear with an impressive view of Huascaran 22,205ft / 6768m, Peru’s highest peak, and Chopicalqui as well as an impressive view of the peaks of Chacraraju and Pisco where our destination, Laguna 69, lies just below them. Many hikers find that the last section before arriving at Laguna 69 is demanding because of the higher altitude, but we take the necessary time to reach our destination and the effort is fully worth the visual experience you capture of these magnificent high peaks of the Cordillera Blanca. When you reach the lake you will be impressed by the incredibly rich aqua blue color of the lake. We’ll spend some time at the lake enjoying our lunch, relaxing and capturing photos of great memories before we return to Cebollapampa where our private transportation is waiting to take us back to Huaraz and your hotel.
