FAQs Family Adventure Trips

Travelling Companions

Q. Is it only parents and children who are allowed on your family trips?
A. The more the merrier, we always say. We welcome parents (including single parents) and children and you’re welcome to bring along any extended family members and family friends as well. As our family adventure trips are private you will enjoy the personal family atmosphere with your relatives and our Inkaland Treks team. We offer this kind of program because we want to provide you and adventure travel experience with your children as a family unit that builds a deep enduring bond. You are welcome to check-out and discover our adventure trips that best fits your needs and expectations.

Q. What’s the minimum age for children on a family adventure trip?
. We understand all children are different which is why we offer a recommended minimum age for each trip. We offer easy-going trips which are ideal for familes with young children over 5 years of age. Trips with greater levels of activities are suited for children 6 to 9 years of age.  For truly adventurous trips, our exciting teenage trips are designed for only young people over 12 years of age and offer greater challenging itineraries.

Q. Do parents and children spend all their time together?
A. Our focused small group adventure trips means we’re often out on the road, experiencing new hiking places or trying out a new activity together and spending the night at a hotel or camp site. We find that during free time and in the afternoon, the children typical gather together and play, while the adults relax close by.  Please note, even with our Guide’s presence, parental supervision is a must at all times.

Q. My child is a fussy eater. Will there be special meals for kids?

A. During our treks we serve a great variety of freshly made delicious food. If your children have special requirements we can do our best to accommodate special meal request with previous notice at the time of your booking. For our day hikes we offer a variety of box lunches that contain delicious sandwiches, fresh fruit, juice and chocolates. There are good restaurants in Huaraz from which your family can choose so you will be able to find several dishes that you may like. Special kids’ menus are not always available in some countries. If you’re concerned about any of your family members liking the specific food choices of Peru, we recommend you try some of the local dishes together at a Peruvian restaurant near your home before you travel to Peru.

Q. What if my child has a food allergy?
A. We will do our best to accommodate any food requirements on trip so please be sure to advise us at the time you book your trip with us. However in some restaurants, it may be difficult to ascertain that food is completely allergen free. If you are in any doubt, we advise you take along snacks from home and use the same precautions as you would at home.

Q. Is there always a vegetarian option?
A.  During treks and hikes we provide vegetarian food options based on your previous request. Our picnics and meals tend to include lots of salads, fruits, rice dishes and breads. In cities, some restaurants offer limited vegetarian options.

A. Yes. We recommend you have comfortable, sturdy hiking boots for your children to wear on long walks. If you’re joining one of our family treks, the terrain can be steep in places and rain is always a possibility, so choose a pair that is waterproof with a good sole and heal grip.
